Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav criticized the Union Budget 2025 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. She claimed the budget offered “nothing new” and failed to address pressing issues.
Speaking to ANI, Yadav said, “There was nothing new in the budget. It lacked fresh ideas or solutions for the people.”
Yadav also addressed the Maha Kumbh incident in Prayagraj, demanding transparency from the state government. She stated, “The Samajwadi Party demands details about the devotees who lost their lives during the Maha Kumbh. The government must explain the cause of the tragedy and hold responsible officers accountable. Devotees who came to take a holy dip are now left wandering.”
During her budget speech, Sitharaman announced significant tax relief for the middle class. Income up to ₹12 lakh will now be tax-free, benefiting millions of taxpayers. She said, “Taxpayers with an income of up to ₹12 lakh will not have to pay any tax. This change will leave more money in the hands of the middle class, boosting consumption, savings, and investment.”
The announcement was met with loud applause from the treasury benches, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The revised tax slabs for FY 2025-26 are as follows:
- Up to ₹4 lakh: Nil (increased from ₹3 lakh)
- ₹4-8 lakh: 5%
- ₹8-12 lakh: 10%
- ₹12-16 lakh: 15%
- ₹16-20 lakh: 20%
- ₹20-24 lakh: 25%
- Above ₹24 lakh: 30%
Under the new regime, a taxpayer earning ₹12 lakh will save ₹80,000, while someone earning ₹18 lakh will save ₹70,000. Those with an income of ₹25 lakh will benefit by ₹1,10,000.
Despite the tax relief, Yadav’s critique highlights the Opposition’s dissatisfaction with the budget’s lack of innovation and focus on critical issues.
