Fahad Ahmad Leads in Anushakti Nagar Amid Maharashtra Poll Counting
Counting of votes in the Maharashtra assembly polls continues. Fahad Ahmad, a candidate from Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction, is leading in the Anushakti Nagar constituency. He has secured 2,751 votes by 12:40 PM, outpacing Sana Malik, the daughter of legislator Nawab Malik, from Ajit Pawar’s NCP group.
Fifteen rounds of counting are complete, with five rounds remaining. Anushakti Nagar is part of the Mumbai South-Central Lok Sabha seat.
Fahad Ahmad’s Journey
Fahad Ahmad, 32, was a youth leader in the Samajwadi Party before joining Sharad Pawar’s faction just days before the polls. A graduate of Aligarh Muslim University and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, he hails from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. He is also married to Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker.
BJP-Led NDA Poised for a Win
Early trends indicate a landslide victory for the BJP-led NDA in Maharashtra, India’s wealthiest state. Nearly three hours into the counting, the alliance shows strong performance. The polling for 288 assembly seats recorded a turnout of over 66%, surpassing the 61% turnout in 2019.
Party Positions and Alliances
The BJP contested the most seats, fielding candidates in 148 constituencies. Its ally, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, contested 80 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP fielded candidates in 53 seats. Smaller allies shared five seats, while decisions on two seats remain pending.
On the opposition side, Congress contested 103 seats. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena contested 89 seats, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP fielded candidates in 87 constituencies. Six seats were allocated to smaller allies, with three constituencies still unresolved.
