
Fake Message Claims Chief Justice DY Chandrachud Needs Money for a Cab
Cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tactics. Recently, a fake message impersonating Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud surfaced online, asking for money to book a cab.
The Message Goes Viral
The fraudulent message, which quickly went viral, was shared on the microblogging platform X. The scammer claimed to be the CJI, stranded at Connaught Place. The message read, “Hello, I am CJI and we have urgent meeting of the collegium and I am stuck at Cannaught Place can you send 5000rs for cab.” It also falsely promised, “I will return the money once I reach the court.”
Supreme Court Takes Immediate Action
In response, the Supreme Court swiftly filed a cyber fraud complaint. Chief Justice Chandrachud instructed this action, reflecting the growing concern over such scams. The incident underscores the increasing sophistication of cybercriminals.

According to the RBI’s annual report, financial fraud cases surged by 166% in the 2023-24 financial year. Banks reported 36,075 cases, a sharp rise from 13,564 cases in the previous year.
