Harassment Video Leads to Arrests in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand Police have arrested four men after a disturbing video emerged on X, showing two women being harassed late at night near Sacred Heart School in Haldwani. The police are still searching for others involved in the incident.
Video Captures Harassment on Quiet Haldwani Street
The one-minute video, reportedly shot on a mobile phone, shows the women’s vehicle being blocked by a black Mahindra Scorpio. The incident occurred on a quiet side street, identified as Mukhani Road by Prachi Joshi, who posted the video on X. A second car, a Hyundai Nios i20, also appeared, with two men shouting abusive comments at the women.
Victim’s Account of the Incident
Prachi Joshi, the woman who shared the video, described the terrifying experience in her post. She explained how two cars filled with men tried to block her vehicle as she was returning from a movie with a friend. Despite their attempts to escape, the men pursued them for 25 minutes.
Public Outrage and Police Criticism
In her post, Ms. Joshi criticized the Uttarakhand Police for failing to protect women in the city. She questioned the growing hooliganism in Haldwani and urged the authorities to take strict action against the perpetrators.
National Concern Over Women’s Safety
The video was shared online just hours before President Droupadi Murmu made a public appeal for the safety and security of women. She condemned the ongoing violence against women and called for immediate change, referencing the unresolved trauma since the Nirbhaya case in 2012.
