The central government will increase the dearness allowance (DA) for over one crore employees and pensioners by 3%. This adjustment raises the DA from 50% to 53%. The cabinet made this decision in a meeting this morning, just weeks before Diwali.

The government issues the DA to help employees and pensioners cope with rising prices. It is revised twice a year and is calculated based on the latest consumer price index for industrial workers.
