Hamas Releases Video of Israeli Hostage Amid Ongoing Negotiations
Hamas has shared a new video showing an Israeli hostage in Gaza. The footage features Liri Albag, a 19-year-old soldier, who calls for her release.
The undated video shows Albag urging the Israeli government to act. Her family, however, has not approved the video’s release. They have asked Israeli leaders to prioritize the hostages’ freedom.
Albag was captured by Hamas militants in October 2023. She was seized from the Nahal Oz base near Gaza, along with six other female soldiers.
Ongoing Negotiations in Qatar
Hamas and Islamic Jihad have held several hostages since the 2023 attack. Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas resumed in Qatar on Friday. Mediators, including Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S., continue efforts to secure a deal.
So far, 251 hostages have been taken since the attack. Of these, 96 are still held in Gaza, and 34 are confirmed dead.
Pressure on Netanyahu
Families of the hostages continue to demand action. Demonstrations are regularly held in Tel Aviv to push for a deal.
Critics have accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of delaying negotiations. His office recently confirmed that Israeli officials are participating in the latest round of talks in Qatar.
The hostages’ families stress that time is running out. They urge leaders to act as if it were their own loved ones in captivity.
