Haryana Student Killed in Tragic Case of Mistaken Identity by Cow Vigilantes
In a tragic incident in Faridabad, Haryana, a Class 12 student named Aryan Mishra was fatally shot by cow vigilantes who mistakenly believed he was a cattle smuggler. Police have arrested five members of the vigilante group in connection with the incident, which occurred on August 23.
Vigilantes Mistake Student for Cattle Smuggler
The arrested individuals, identified as Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, Adesh, and Saurabh, allegedly chased Aryan and his friends for about 30 kilometers along the Delhi-Agra National Highway. The group received information about alleged cattle smugglers in Renault Duster and Toyota Fortuner cars and set out to track them down.
Fatal Encounter on the Highway
While searching for the suspected smugglers, the vigilantes spotted a Duster car carrying Aryan and his friends—Harshit, Shanky, and two girls. They attempted to stop the car, but Harshit, who was driving, refused to pull over, fearing they were being pursued by goons due to a prior feud involving their friend Shanky.
The vigilantes then chased the car and opened fire, with a bullet striking Aryan near the neck as he sat in the passenger seat. When the car finally stopped, Aryan was shot again in the chest as the attackers, believing they might be fired upon, continued their assault.
Realization and Aftermath
Upon seeing the two girls in the car, the vigilantes realized they might have targeted the wrong individuals and fled the scene. Aryan was rushed to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
The weapon used in the shooting was reportedly illegal, according to sources. The five suspects are currently in police custody, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
