IAF Woman Officer Alleges Rape, Files Complaint Against Wing Commander
A woman flying officer in the Indian Air Force (IAF) has filed a police complaint accusing a Wing Commander of rape and harassment. The FIR was lodged at Budgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir, with both officers being stationed in Srinagar. The Indian Air Force confirmed that they are fully cooperating with the local authorities in this investigation.
Allegations of Sexual Assault and Harassment
In her complaint, the flying officer described a harrowing ordeal of ongoing harassment, sexual assault, and mental torture over the past two years. She detailed an incident from a New Year’s Eve party in December 2023, where her senior officer allegedly lured her into his room under the pretext of giving her a gift. Once inside, she claims he forced her into oral sex and molested her despite her repeated pleas for him to stop. “I resisted in all ways possible and finally pushed him away before escaping,” she said.

Senior Officers Allegedly Tried to Suppress the Case
Following the incident, the flying officer said it took her time to process what had happened and find the courage to report the assault. She confided in two other female officers, who advised her to file a formal complaint. Despite her efforts, she alleges that the investigation was mishandled by senior officers. A Colonel was assigned to investigate, but she claims the Wing Commander was allowed to be present during her statement, which she strongly objected to.
The investigation was reportedly closed to “cover up administrative mistakes,” according to the officer. She later approached the Internal Committee, which took two months to convene. She also claimed that the committee displayed bias, favoring the accused, and failed to conduct a timely medical examination despite her insistence.
Alleged Institutional Harassment and Retaliation
The flying officer further alleged that her requests for leave, transfer, or even temporary relief were repeatedly denied. She claims she was forced to attend social events with her abuser while facing daily harassment from authorities. “My personal communications are monitored, and those I speak to are harassed by the authorities,” she said.
Despite filing multiple complaints, the Internal Committee reportedly closed the case, stating it was “inconclusive” due to the lack of eyewitnesses. “Isn’t it common sense that someone wouldn’t commit sexual assault in front of a witness?” the flying officer questioned.
Impact on Mental Health
The ongoing ordeal has taken a significant toll on her mental health. “I am living in constant fear, under 24/7 scrutiny. I feel utterly helpless, and suicidal thoughts have crossed my mind. My social life is nonexistent, and I cannot carry on with my daily life,” she said.
The case is under investigation by local police, while the IAF continues to cooperate with authorities.
