The internet is buzzing with a debate about vulgarity. A viral dance performance by IIT Bombay students has divided opinions. The video shows students dancing to “Munni Badnaam” onstage, with some viewers calling the performance inappropriate for an educational setting.
The performance was done by students of Hostel 5 at IIT Bombay, as reported by the ‘IIT Bombay Uncuts’ YouTube channel. While the crowd cheered during the dance, social media had mixed reactions. One user shared the video on X, asking, “IIT Bombay vulgar dance, what’s your opinion on this?”
The video has now garnered 1.2 million views. People are debating whether the performance crossed a line or not.
The Critics
Many found the dance offensive. One user remarked, “Cheap…doesn’t look like these students get educated here.” Another blamed the media, saying shows like Kapil Sharma and Bollywood films have influenced young people to embrace such performances.
Others believe Bollywood is at fault, accusing the entertainment industry of encouraging inappropriate content. One person commented, “It’s an item song that objectifies women. If you think this is okay, you’re brainwashed.”
The Supporters
On the other hand, several defended the performance. They argued that the students have earned their place at IIT and deserve to enjoy themselves. One user pointed out that people who haven’t experienced college life at prestigious institutions shouldn’t criticize.
Supporters continued to argue that if this performance is considered vulgar, then Bollywood should be the main target. “This doesn’t even rank in the top 200 things happening at IIT Bombay,” said another user.
The debate continues, with no clear consensus in sight.
