Ramesh Bidhuri’s Sexist Remark Fuels Political Tensions
BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri has sparked fresh controversy with a sexist remark against Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi. The comment, made during a campaign speech ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, drew strong criticism from opposition leaders.
Congress and AAP Condemn the Remark
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate slammed Bidhuri’s statement, calling it “shameful” and accusing BJP of harboring an “anti-women mindset.” She reminded the public of Bidhuri’s past behavior in Parliament, where he used foul language against fellow MPs without facing punishment.
“His remarks reflect BJP’s real face. They have no respect for women,” Shrinate said.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh also criticized Bidhuri, sharing the video on social media. Singh questioned whether women in Delhi could feel safe under BJP’s leadership. “This is how BJP respects women. Can Delhi’s women trust such leaders with their safety?” he wrote.
Bidhuri Defends Himself, Justifies His Words
Facing backlash, Ramesh Bidhuri defended his controversial comment by referencing a past remark allegedly made by former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav against actress-turned-politician Hema Malini.
“We will respond in the same language they use. Is Hema Malini not a woman? If Congress rectifies their statements, we will do the same,” Bidhuri said.
Later, he expressed “regret” on social media, claiming his intention was not to hurt anyone. “Some people are twisting my statement for political gain. If my words have hurt anyone, I express my regret,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Previous Controversies Surrounding Bidhuri
This isn’t the first time Bidhuri has faced criticism for his remarks. In 2023, he made Islamophobic slurs against Kunwar Danish Ali, a former BSP MP who is now with Congress. Despite public outrage, BJP did not take any significant disciplinary action, prompting allegations of a tacit endorsement of his behavior.
Congress Plans to File FIR
Congress leader Alka Lamba announced that the party will formally file an FIR against Bidhuri over his latest comment.
“This behavior cannot be tolerated. BJP must take responsibility for its leaders’ actions,” Lamba said.
As political tensions rise ahead of the Delhi polls, Bidhuri’s remark has once again spotlighted concerns over the BJP’s attitude toward women and the accountability of its leaders.
