External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that it was too early to determine the involvement of foreign conspiracies in the Bangladesh crisis. Responding to Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi’s inquiries during an all-party meeting on Tuesday, Jaishankar remarked, “It is too early to rule in or rule out anything, but a Pakistani diplomat did change his social media profile picture to support the agitation in Bangladesh.”
Jaishankar briefed the MPs at the Parliament complex before issuing a statement on the ongoing crisis in the neighboring country. He assured them that the Centre was monitoring all possible developments.
Monitoring the Situation
Jaishankar provided an overview of the unfolding situation in Bangladesh, highlighting the current state of affairs and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s relocation to India. He emphasized that the Indian government was giving Hasina time to decide her future course of action.
Taking to social media platform X, Jaishankar shared, “Briefed an all-party meeting in Parliament today about the ongoing developments in Bangladesh. Appreciate the unanimous support and understanding that was extended.”
Evacuation of Indians
During the meeting, Jaishankar informed the leaders that the central government was in contact with the Bangladesh Army. He mentioned that the situation was evolving and assured that the government would take appropriate actions at the right time.
According to sources, the meeting revealed that there are around 20,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh, and so far, 8,000 have returned. Jaishankar confirmed that the Indian government remains in touch with Indian nationals and that the High Commission continues to operate.
The focus is on protecting minorities in Bangladesh, and the opposition expressed unanimous support for the government’s efforts.
When Congress leader Rahul Gandhi inquired about India’s long-term and short-term strategies, the government stated that the situation was progressive and would be continually assessed.

Bangladesh Crisis
Bangladesh is experiencing a turbulent political situation following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation amid escalating protests. The protests, primarily led by students demanding the abolition of a quota system for government jobs, have grown into a broader anti-government movement.
In Dhaka, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement proposed an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus to address the nation’s ongoing challenges.
Sheikh Hasina arrived in India on Monday evening after resigning. It remains unclear whether she will continue to stay in Delhi or move to another location.
The Indian government continues to monitor the situation closely, ready to support and protect its nationals and respond to any developments in the Bangladesh crisis.
