JD(U) to Contest Two Delhi Seats with BJP
Janata Dal (United) is expected to contest two assembly seats in the upcoming Delhi elections. A senior JD(U) leader confirmed ongoing discussions with the BJP regarding seat-sharing.
“Talks are underway between JD(U) and BJP. One seat is confirmed, and discussions are on for the second,” said a party official.
The JD(U) plans to field candidates from Sangam Vihar and Burari. The party had contested both seats in the 2020 polls but finished second.
JD(U)’s Performance in 2020 Elections
In the last assembly polls, JD(U) contested Burari and Sangam Vihar. Shailendra Kumar, the candidate from Burari, lost to AAP’s Sanjeev Jha. Jha secured 62.81% of the votes, while Kumar managed only 23.14%.
From Sangam Vihar, JD(U)’s Shiv Charan Gupta garnered 32,823 votes but couldn’t win the seat.
NDA Allies’ Seat Demands
JD(U) initially sought three seats in Delhi. However, other NDA allies like Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Jayant Chaudhary’s Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) also expressed interest in contesting.
Paswan stated that his party would contest only on winnable seats. “Our focus is on strengthening NDA. We will choose seats with a strong winning possibility,” he told the media.
