Kangana Ranaut Issues Unconditional Apology to Javed Akhtar, Defamation Case Closed
Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday offered an unconditional apology to lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar for making defamatory remarks and linking his name to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Both Ranaut and Akhtar personally appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Bandra, where they formally settled the case.
Kangana Withdraws Statements, Promises Not to Repeat
During the hearing, Ranaut admitted that her statements from July 19, 2020, during an interview with Arnab Goswami, were based on misunderstandings. She formally withdrew her remarks and pledged not to repeat them in the future.
“I apologize for any inconvenience caused to Mr. Javed Akhtar. He is one of the most respected members of the film industry, and I have great regard for him,” Ranaut stated before the Mumbai court.
In response, Akhtar withdrew his complaint, bringing an end to the case.
Court Accepts Settlement, Case Disposed Of
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A.K. Awari acknowledged the settlement and officially closed the defamation case.
The legal dispute began in December 2020 when Javed Akhtar filed a private complaint alleging that Ranaut had falsely attributed defamatory statements to him during her interview with Republic TV.
Akhtar had argued that he was a self-made man who arrived in Mumbai in 1964 with Rs 27, two sets of clothes, and a few books. His plea highlighted his 55-year career in the film industry and his tenure as a Rajya Sabha member from 2010 to 2016.
He claimed that Ranaut made unfounded accusations about his involvement in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, which tarnished his reputation.
“Dragging my name into an unrelated and sensitive matter was an attempt to intimidate me. Such allegations amount to veiled threats,” Akhtar had stated in his complaint.
With both parties agreeing to end the legal battle, this high-profile dispute has finally been resolved.
