Kangana Ranaut Faces Death Threat Over ‘Emergency,’ Seeks Police Protection
Controversy Erupts Over Indira Gandhi Portrayal in Upcoming Film
Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP and actor, has reached out to the police after receiving death threats over her upcoming film Emergency. The threats emerged on social media after the film’s trailer was released, where Ms. Ranaut plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The Threatening Video
The video, now circulating on social media, shows six men sitting in a circle, with two dressed as Nihang Sikhs. One of the men warns that the Sikh community will condemn the movie if it releases, stating, “Your movie will be received with chappals.” Another man, identified as Vicky Thomas Singh, a social media influencer, warns that if Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale is portrayed as a terrorist in the film, there could be violent consequences. He alludes to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards, Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, in 1984.
Kangana’s Response
In response to the video, Kangana Ranaut tagged the Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP), Himachal Police, and Punjab Police on X (formerly Twitter). “Please look into this,” she urged authorities, seeking protection amid the growing controversy.
Call for a Ban
Several organizations, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, have called for a ban on the film’s release, claiming it promotes an “anti-Sikh” narrative and misrepresents Sikhs as “separatists.”

The film delves into her handling of political conflicts, turmoil, and other significant events throughout her time in office.
