Arvind Kejriwal Backs Delhi Jats’ OBC Demand, Targets BJP
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has once again demanded the inclusion of Delhi’s Jat community in the Centre’s OBC list. He met with Jat leaders at his residence and assured them of his support.
“The Jats in Delhi are on the state OBC list but not on the central list,” Kejriwal said at a press conference. He pointed out that Jats from Rajasthan get access to central government jobs and admissions in institutions like Delhi University, while Delhi Jats remain excluded.
The AAP leader also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of failing to fulfill their promise. “Both Modi and Shah assured Delhi’s Jat community of OBC reservation at the central level. But even after 10 years, nothing has been done,” Kejriwal said.
AAP Hits Out at BJP for Ignoring Jat Community
Kejriwal criticized the BJP for betraying Delhi’s Jats. He posted on X, saying that the Jat delegation expressed their anger over BJP’s “injustice” towards them. “AAP fully supports the community’s justified demand,” Kejriwal said.
In response, BJP leaders dismissed Kejriwal’s demand as an election gimmick. BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat accused AAP of ignoring the issue during its tenure in Delhi. “For 10 years, AAP never raised this issue in the Vidhan Sabha. Now, they are doing it for votes,” Sehrawat said.
Sehrawat, who belongs to the Jat community, claimed that former Delhi minister Kailash Gahlot had repeatedly reminded Kejriwal about the issue. “It is AAP’s failure that Delhi Jats are not on the central OBC list,” she added.
BJP leader Kuljeet Singh Chahal also slammed AAP’s stance. He called the demand a political stunt. “AAP is desperate. The party is on a ventilator, and they are resorting to these tactics,” Chahal said. He asserted that BJP values the Jat community and pointed to his own appointment as NDMC vice-chairman.
Despite BJP’s criticism, Kejriwal has continued to push for central OBC status for Delhi’s Jats. His demand is likely to be a key talking point as Delhi heads towards another election season.
