Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, addressed tens of thousands of supporters at a mosque in Tehran. It marked his first public sermon in five years. During his speech, he predicted that Israel “won’t last long” and endorsed the actions of Palestinian and Lebanese movements against Israel.
Khamenei defended the recent missile strikes on Israel, calling them a “public service.” Holding a gun by his side, he claimed that Israel would not withstand the resistance of groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. As the crowd chanted their support, Khamenei emphasized that these groups would continue their struggle.
His speech took place amid growing threats to his life, as Israel has promised retaliation for the missile attacks earlier in the week. Khamenei remains a key target for Israel, but he showed no signs of backing down.
Khamenei also honored Hassan Nasrallah, the former leader of Hezbollah, who was recently killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. He praised Nasrallah’s legacy, describing him as a “high-standing flag against the Zionist enemy.” According to Khamenei, Nasrallah’s martyrdom would only increase the group’s influence and inspire more resistance.
He went on to call Hezbollah a “blessed tree” that grew stronger under Nasrallah’s leadership. Khamenei declared it the responsibility of all Muslims to support Lebanon’s fight and stand with the Palestinians.
Khamenei backed Hamas’ attacks on Israel from earlier in October, calling them the “right move.” He argued that no international laws could question the actions of the Lebanese and Palestinians in defending their lands against occupation. He also labeled Israel a “tool” for the United States, claiming that the Zionist entity would eventually be “uprooted” due to its lack of stability and dependence on American support.
This sermon was Khamenei’s first since January 2020, when he addressed the nation following a missile strike on a U.S. base in Iraq. Iran continues to support both Hamas and Hezbollah in their fight against Israel from the southern and northern fronts.
