Kharge Blasts PM Modi, BJP Over Manipur Crisis
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. His remarks came after fresh violence erupted in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, leaving several people, including a senior police officer, injured.
Kharge accused Modi of abandoning Manipur since his last visit in January 2022. “@narendramodi ji, your last visit to Manipur was for seeking votes for BJP. Violence erupted in the state on 3rd May 2023,” Kharge wrote on X.
Congress Criticizes BJP for Ignoring Manipur
Kharge said that ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities continues to devastate Manipur. He cited reports claiming that satellite images reveal entire villages have been destroyed.
“Villages after villages have been wiped off,” Kharge noted. He blamed the BJP for allowing the situation to spiral out of control.
The Congress has repeatedly attacked PM Modi for not visiting Manipur during the crisis. Kharge also criticized Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, calling him “incompetent and shameless.”
Fresh Violence in Kangpokpi District
Recent clashes in Kangpokpi district have worsened the situation. A mob attacked the Superintendent of Police, leaving him injured. Kharge slammed CM Singh for his failure to maintain order.
“Your CM has expressed regret but conveniently ignored your absence,” Kharge wrote, addressing the prime minister.
