Police Crack Down on Carjacking Gang
The Ludhiana police arrested eight people involved in two carjackings within ten days. Officials said they recovered six vehicles, a pistol, six cartridges, 20 mobile phones, and two laptops from the accused.
The gang stole a Hyundai Verna from Model Town on December 20, 2024. Ten days later, they took a Maruti Swift Dzire from Rajguru Nagar.
Suspects Identified
The arrested suspects include Danish Kumar, Dildarpreet Singh, and Arandeep Singh from Zirakpur. Others are Binder Kumar from Abohar, Gurbhej Singh from Fazilka, Hardeep Singh (alias Rocky) from Moga, Rameshwar Tomar from Mohali, and Sanjay Kumar from Ludhiana.
Mastermind Revealed
Police identified Hardeep Singh as the gang’s mastermind. All suspects lived in rented accommodations in Zirakpur.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Shubham Agarwal said several teams from CIA-2, CIA-3, and Sarabha Nagar police station worked together to solve the cases.
Details of the Crimes
The first carjacking occurred in Model Town. The suspects snatched a Hyundai Verna at gunpoint from a tutor. Ten days later, they targeted another victim in Rajguru Nagar, robbing a Dzire while the owner changed a flat tyre.
Recovered Vehicles
Police recovered both stolen cars and four additional vehicles. These included a Toyota Etios, Maruti Zeta, Mahindra Scorpio, and Maruti WagonR. The ownership of these cars is under verification.
Weapons and Gadgets Seized
Officials revealed that the accused obtained a pistol and cartridges from Madhya Pradesh. They used these weapons to carry out the crimes.
Criminal Backgrounds
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Amandeep Singh Brar shared more insights. Two suspects had prior records. Gurbhej Singh faced charges under Section 304-A of the IPC in Mohali in 2023. Binder Kumar had theft charges filed by Chandigarh police in 2022.
Gang’s Lifestyle
The suspects lived in Zirakpur and pretended to be workers. Their families believed they had regular jobs, unaware of their criminal activities. Police expect more revelations during interrogation.
