Malaysia PM Anwar Ibrahim Pays Tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh
Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh. The former Indian Prime Minister, aged 92, passed away recently. Anwar called him a “true friend” and praised his role as the “midwife of India’s emergence.”
In a heartfelt post on X, Anwar wrote, “The weight of grief bears down on me at the news of the passing of my honoured and cherished friend: Dr. Manmohan Singh.” He described Dr. Singh as the architect of India’s economic reforms. Anwar noted that while Dr. Singh seemed slightly awkward as a politician, he stood firm and resolute as a statesman.
A Gesture of Friendship and Kindness
Anwar recalled a touching memory from his imprisonment. Dr. Singh offered scholarships to Anwar’s children, including his son, Ihsan, during those difficult times. Although Anwar declined the offer, he deeply appreciated the gesture.
“During the years of my incarceration, Dr. Singh showed extraordinary kindness,” Anwar shared. “He stood by me as a true friend when I needed it the most.” Anwar concluded with a heartfelt farewell, saying, “Goodbye, my mitra, my bhai, Manmohan.”
