Manu Bhaker Historic Feat at Paris Olympics
Manu Bhaker made India proud at the 2024 Paris Olympics by securing two bronze medals. She became the first Indian athlete to achieve this milestone in a single Olympic edition, showcasing her unparalleled dedication and skill in shooting.
Disappointment Over Khel Ratna Snub
Despite her record-breaking performance, Manu’s name was missing from the list of 30 nominees for the prestigious Khel Ratna award. The shooter claims she submitted her application through the official portal, but the sports ministry disputes this, stating they did not receive her application.
Father’s Criticism of the Decision
Manu’s father expressed his frustration, saying he regrets choosing shooting for his daughter.
“I regret putting her in shooting. If she were a cricketer, awards and recognition would have come easily. She won two Olympic medals—what more does she need to do? Manu is heartbroken and feels her efforts are not valued,” he said.
Federation Steps In
Reports indicate that Manu had applied for the award through the portal. The shooting federation has approached the sports ministry to resolve the issue and ensure her achievements are recognized.
Padma Award Applications
Manu has also applied for the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, India’s third and fourth-highest civilian honors. The applications were submitted through the Padma awards portal on September 15, further emphasizing her contributions to Indian sports.
Manu’s journey reflects her resilience and determination. However, her exclusion from the Khel Ratna shortlist raises critical questions about how the country honors its sporting heroes.
