BSP chief and former Chief Minister of UP has called a massive rally on 9 October on the occasion of the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. This rally is seen as BSP’s comeback, and the party is aiming for five lakh supporters to join the event. After the 2017 UP Assembly election, BSP’s vote share and political presence have decreased, and from the 2017 Assembly election to the 2024 general election, the BSP has declined to just one seat in the Vidhan Sabha. BSP has not only declined in the Assembly but also on the ground.
To strengthen the BSP at the organizational level and in electoral politics, Mayawati has called a massive rally on 9 October in Lucknow to demonstrate her and the party’s strength and to gear up for the 2027 UP Assembly polls.
But a question arises: is this really a comeback strategy for the BSP, or a BJP project aimed at damaging the SP’s vote bank? In the 2024 election, a large portion of the marginalized community’s votes shifted to the Samajwadi Party and its allies, helping them win a majority of seats in the Lok Sabha from UP. Because of this, the BJP may have influenced Mayawati to contest the elections with full potential so that the votes of marginalized groups and minorities are divided, which could help the BJP win the upcoming UP elections.
