Mehbooba Mufti: PDP Will Defend J&K’s Identity Against BJP
PDP’s Role in Defending J&K
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti emphasized that her People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is the only political force capable of resisting the BJP’s actions, which she believes are threatening the identity, land, and employment opportunities of the people in the Union Territory.
Speaking in Anantnag, Mufti stated that during the PDP’s tenure in power, the party guided J&K, especially south Kashmir, through difficult times. “When we were in power, we helped the people of J&K, especially those in south Kashmir, recover from the worst impact of POTA and the Special Task Force,” she said.
Focus on Past Achievements
Mufti highlighted the development work accomplished during the PDP’s previous governance. She noted that their current challenge lies in surpassing the progress made during that time. “The real test for us is to do better than we did before, especially for the people of south Kashmir,” she said.

Responding to BJP’s Promises
In response to a question about Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s promise of five lakh jobs if the BJP is elected, Mufti dismissed the claim as false. “They had promised two crore jobs every year but have not even delivered one crore in the past decade. They are unashamed of making false promises,” she remarked.
Call for Release of Youth
When asked about the release of MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, on interim bail from Tihar Jail, Mufti expressed hope that more incarcerated youth and others would soon be freed. “We hope the rest of our young people and poor individuals in jails will also be released,” she said.
PDP’s Stand for J&K
Mehbooba Mufti reiterated that the PDP remains committed to representing the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. She emphasized that the party will continue to speak out on issues affecting the region and resist any attempts to undermine its unique identity.
