Minister’s Daughter Harassed at Fair, Maharashtra’s Law and Order Questioned
Union Minister Raksha Khadse has raised concerns over women’s safety in Maharashtra after her minor daughter was harassed at a fair in Jalgaon district. The incident has intensified the political debate, with the opposition Congress slamming the state government.
Minister Files Complaint, Seeks Justice
Raksha Khadse, the Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, visited the police station with several BJP workers to file a complaint. “My daughter went to the Shivratri fair in Kothali and was harassed by some boys. I am here as a mother seeking justice, not as a minister,” she told reporters.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Kushanat Pingde revealed that the accused misbehaved with multiple girls and even attacked their bodyguards. “Seven accused have been named. One has been arrested,” he confirmed.
A case has been registered for molestation under the POCSO Act. Charges under the IT Act have also been added as the accused filmed the girls.
“If My Daughter Isn’t Safe, What About Others?”
Khadse, a three-time MP from Raver, expressed deep concern over the rising crimes against women. “If the daughter of a public representative is not safe, what about common citizens? There is no fear of the law. Many girls hesitate to speak up, but we must not stay silent,” she said.
She vowed to meet the Chief Minister and demand stricter implementation of laws.
Congress Slams Government, Fadnavis Responds
Maharashtra Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal blamed the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance for the worsening law and order. He demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “If even ministers’ daughters are unsafe, what hope do common people have?” he posted online.
Fadnavis hit back, claiming that members of a “particular party” were behind the crime. “Cops have arrested some suspects, and the rest will be caught soon. No one will be spared,” he assured.
Rising Crimes Fuel Public Outrage
The incident follows the shocking Pune rape case, where a 26-year-old woman was assaulted inside a parked bus at Swargate depot. The accused, a habitual offender, was arrested from a paddy field.
With rising cases of crimes against women, Maharashtra’s law-and-order situation remains under intense scrutiny.
