The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest film honor. It recognizes individuals for their exceptional work in the world of cinema. Mithun will receive the award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024. This honor highlights his impact on Indian cinema over the decades.
A Storied Career in Cinema
Born in Kolkata, Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut in Mrigayaa (1976). His performance earned him his first National Film Award for Best Actor. Over the years, Mithun won two more National Film Awards for his roles in Tahader Katha (1992) and Swami Vivekananda (1998). He remains a significant figure in Bollywood, with his recent appearance in The Kashmir Files continuing to showcase his talent.
Padma Bhushan and Legacy
Earlier in 2024, Mithun was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor. His contributions to both cinema and society have left a lasting mark. Mithun’s son, Namashi Chakraborty, has followed in his father’s footsteps, making his Bollywood debut in the film Bad Boy.
