NEET UG 2025: Offline Mode Confirmed for a Single Day and Shift
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced that NEET UG 2025 will be held in pen-and-paper mode (OMR-based) on a single day and shift. The decision was made after detailed discussions between the education and health ministries regarding whether the exam should be conducted in offline or online mode.
A Crucial Decision After Deliberations
On Thursday, January 16, the National Medical Commission (NMC) confirmed the decision, reinforcing that the medical entrance exam will continue in offline mode. The notice was released on the official NTA website, nta.ac.in.
The NMC’s resolution follows multiple discussions about transitioning the exam to a Computer-Based Test (CBT), a proposal that has surfaced in the past but gained momentum after last year’s paper leak controversy.
Seats and Scope of NEET UG 2025
NEET UG 2025 will open doors to a total of 1,08,000 seats for the MBBS course. Of these, around 56,000 seats are available in government medical colleges, while approximately 52,000 seats are in private institutions.
Apart from MBBS, the NEET results will also be used for admissions to undergraduate courses in Dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha.
Record Numbers in NEET UG 2024
In 2024, more than 24 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET UG exam, with results announced in July. The NTA continues to conduct the entrance exam on behalf of the National Medical Commission.
