Sanjay Malhotra Journey: From IIT Kanpur to Princeton
On December 9, the government appointed Sanjay Malhotra as the new Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor. Malhotra graduated in computer science from IIT Kanpur in 1989. He later earned a Master’s degree in public policy from Princeton University, USA.
In 1990, Malhotra cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination and joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the Rajasthan cadre. Over his 33-year career, he gained experience in areas like power, finance, taxation, IT, and mining.
IIT Kanpur: A Hub of Excellence
IIT Kanpur holds the status of an Institute of National Importance. It ranked fourth in the engineering category under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024. In the overall category, it secured fifth place, seventh in research, and 30th in management.
Globally, the QS World University Rankings 2024 placed IIT Kanpur at the 263rd position among top institutions worldwide.
Princeton University: A Prestigious Legacy
Princeton University, established in 1746 as the College of New Jersey, ranks among the world’s top institutions. According to QS World University Rankings 2024, it secured the 22nd spot. The Times Higher Education ranking placed it fourth globally.
