Okhla Election 2025: Amanatullah Khan Eyes Hat-Trick Victory
The high-stakes battle for the Okhla Assembly seat is nearing its conclusion, with AAP’s Amanatullah Khan leading by 36,022 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) trends at 12:40 PM. AIMIM’s Shifa Ur Rehman Khan trails by 15,178 votes, while BJP’s Manish Chaudhary, who initially led, has dropped to third place, lagging by 26,121 votes.
A Three-Way Fight in Okhla
The Okhla Assembly contest turned into a three-cornered battle after AIMIM entered the fray. Amanatullah Khan, a two-time AAP MLA, is eyeing a record third consecutive victory from the seat. The BJP fielded Manish Chaudhary, while Congress placed its bets on Ariba Khan. AIMIM’s Shifa Ur Rehman Khan contested the election from jail, making headlines with his unconventional campaign in Muslim-dominated areas.
Okhla’s Political Landscape
Okhla has a high Muslim population density, with key areas including Batla House, Zakir Nagar, Gaffar Manzil, Noor Nagar, Abul Fazal Enclave, Haji Colony, and Shaheen Bagh. The constituency has historically been a stronghold for Congress, with Parvez Hashmi winning multiple terms before shifting to the Rajya Sabha in 2009.
As counting nears completion, all eyes are on whether Amanatullah Khan will secure another term or if AIMIM’s surprise entry will change the game.
