Omar Abdullah Questions INDIA Alliance’s Future
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has voiced concerns about the INDIA alliance’s lack of clarity. He stated that the alliance should dissolve if it was only formed for the Parliament elections.
The National Conference leader was responding to a question about the Delhi Assembly polls. The elections see a three-way contest between AAP, BJP, and Congress. Interestingly, AAP and Congress had joined hands during the Lok Sabha elections held earlier.
Abdullah Calls for Clarity in Leadership
In an interview with ANI, Abdullah expressed his disappointment over the alliance’s current state. He highlighted that no recent meetings have been held.
“We have no involvement in the Delhi elections. It is up to AAP, Congress, and other parties to decide how to take on BJP. But as far as the INDIA alliance is concerned, there is no clarity on leadership or agenda. If it was just for Parliament polls, they should end it,” Abdullah said.
Rift Between AAP and Congress Widens
In the run-up to the Delhi polls, AAP and Congress have targeted each other. Congress accused AAP of corruption and poor governance. In response, AAP alleged that Congress is working with BJP behind the scenes.
These exchanges have sparked doubts about the INDIA bloc’s future. Leaders are now questioning its leadership structure and purpose.
Mamata Banerjee Offers to Lead INDIA Bloc
Following Congress’ recent poll defeats, discussions about new leadership have gained momentum. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has expressed willingness to take charge if allies support her.
Several partners have shown interest in this idea. This comes amid growing dissatisfaction with Congress’s leadership within the alliance.
Abdullah Warns Congress on Leadership Role
Abdullah previously urged Congress to rethink its leadership approach. He noted that Congress holds the largest footprint across India and has the opposition leader’s post in both houses of Parliament. However, he added that some allies feel Congress is not doing enough to retain its leadership position.
“Congress should not assume it will automatically lead the bloc. They need to earn it and keep it,” he remarked.
