Opposition Criticizes Omar Abdullah Government Over LG’s Budget Address
The Omar Abdullah-led government came under fire from the opposition for allegedly ignoring key issues in the Lieutenant Governor’s budget address. The opposition leaders expressed disappointment over the absence of Article 370, J&K prisoners, July 13 Martyrs’ Day, and other pressing concerns in the speech.
Opposition’s Reaction
PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Parra criticized the address, stating, “Vital issues related to J&K were neglected. The government has a huge mandate, yet it remains silent on crucial matters.” He highlighted the absence of discussions on FIRs against youth, property attachments, and unfair terminations.
Former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti also dismissed the speech, calling it a repetition of previous statements by the LG, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the central government.
“There was no vision for public governance over the next five years. No roadmap was provided to address people’s struggles. This government is merely an extension of BJP’s policies,” she said.
Peoples Conference Chairman Sajjad Lone echoed similar concerns, calling the speech a “possible BJP address” and questioning the complete exclusion of Article 370 and the reorganization Act.
BJP Leader and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma defended the address, stating that it aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for J&K.
Omar Abdullah’s Response
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah countered the criticism, asserting that the Article 370 resolution had already been passed in the previous assembly session in Srinagar in October.
“We will respond to all questions raised by the opposition inside the house,” he said.
He also urged legislators to engage constructively during the budget session rather than focusing solely on political disputes.
The debate over Article 370 continues to dominate discussions, reflecting the ongoing divide between the ruling party and the opposition in Jammu and Kashmir.
