PM Modi and Singapore PM Wong Strengthen Bilateral Relations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a highly productive meeting with his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong, today. The two leaders agreed to elevate their countries’ ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Established
During the meeting, PM Modi and PM Wong extensively reviewed key areas of cooperation, including advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalization, healthcare, skills development, and sustainability. The elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership highlights the growing strength of the relationship between India and Singapore.
Warm Reception and Formalities
PM Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Singapore, received a red-carpet welcome at the Singapore Parliament House. He also signed the visitor’s book before commencing talks with PM Wong. The meeting marks a significant moment as it comes shortly after PM Modi’s third term and PM Wong’s assumption of office.

Exchange of MoUs and Upcoming Engagements
Following their talks, both leaders oversaw the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), further solidifying the cooperation between the two nations. Later, PM Modi will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and call on Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Senior Minister Lee will also host a lunch in PM Modi’s honor.
Focus on Semiconductors and Business
In addition to strengthening political ties, PM Modi will engage with Singaporean business leaders and interact with key figures from the country’s semiconductor ecosystem. Both leaders are also set to visit a semiconductor manufacturing facility, signaling a focus on advancing technological collaboration.
Visit Follows Successful Brunei Trip
PM Modi’s visit to Singapore comes right after wrapping up his historic trip to Brunei, the first by an Indian prime minister. Upon arrival in Singapore, he received a warm welcome from the Indian community, reflecting the strong cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
