PM Modi Empowers Villages with Svamitva Property Cards
Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed 65 lakh Svamitva property cards on Saturday, aiming to boost economic activities and alleviate poverty in rural India. Through video conferencing, he interacted with beneficiaries and emphasized the scheme’s role in securing loans and accessing government benefits.
A Nationwide Initiative
The cards were distributed across 50,000 villages in 10 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, as well as in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Modi highlighted that 2.24 crore rural beneficiaries would now possess property cards after this phase of distribution.
Addressing Long-Standing Challenges
Modi pointed out that property rights have been a global challenge. Citing a United Nations study, he stressed how the lack of legal property documents hindered poverty alleviation. “Villagers own property worth lakhs of crores but lacked the papers to prove ownership. This led to disputes, loss of assets, and denial of bank loans,” he said.
He criticized previous governments for ignoring this issue and highlighted how marginalized communities like Dalits, backward classes, and tribals suffered the most.
Transforming Lives with Legal Rights
With legal property rights in hand, many villagers have secured loans to start businesses, boosting their financial stability. Modi termed Svamitva and Bhu-Adhaar as foundational pillars for the development of Indian villages.
Large-Scale Distribution Events
Events for property card distribution were held in over 230 districts. Around 13 Union ministers oversaw regional ceremonies, ensuring widespread participation. Union Minister of Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh and other officials joined Modi at the event.
The Svamitva scheme continues to provide rural residents with opportunities for growth, marking a significant step toward economic empowerment and financial inclusion.
