PM Modi, Kharge Extend Birthday Wishes to Mamata Banerjee
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended birthday wishes to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday. Taking to his X handle, he wrote, “Praying for her long and healthy life.”
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge also wished Banerjee in Bengali, recognizing her roots. He described her as the founding leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
For years, PM Modi has consistently wished Banerjee on her birthday, despite their political differences.
Mamata Banerjee’s Journey in West Bengal Politics
Born during Durga Puja in 1955, Mamata Banerjee became the first woman Chief Minister of West Bengal in 2011. Her rise to power ended the Left Front’s 34-year rule in the state.
Before founding the TMC, Banerjee was part of the Congress. She later broke away to form her own party. In 2011, her party, in alliance with Congress, won the state elections. However, in 2016, both parties parted ways.
Banerjee has led the TMC to three consecutive electoral victories in West Bengal — in 2011, 2016, and 2021.
A Political Powerhouse
Known for her grassroots connection, Banerjee has played a key role in shaping West Bengal politics. Her protests against the Left Front made her a prominent leader.
Even at 70, Banerjee remains a formidable force in Indian politics. Her leadership continues to inspire millions in West Bengal and beyond.
