In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to restoring peace. “Met President Mahmoud Abbas in New York. Reiterated India’s support for the early restoration of peace and stability in the region. Exchanged views on strengthening the long-standing friendship with the people of Palestine,” Modi stated.
Concern Over Gaza Humanitarian Crisis
According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi expressed his deep concern over the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. He reaffirmed India’s continuous support to the Palestinian people during these challenging times.
Modi’s U.S. Visit
PM Modi is on a three-day official visit to the United States. After attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, he arrived in New York on Saturday. On Sunday, he addressed the Indian-American community at the ‘Modi&US’ event in Long Island.
Gaza Crisis
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has caused significant humanitarian damage. Since Hamas’s October 7 attack, Israel has responded with military action, intensifying the crisis. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed, while more than 95,000 have been injured since the conflict escalated. The toll also includes over 1,500 Israelis and foreign nationals, most of whom were victims of Hamas’s attack.
