Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kyiv next month for the first time since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, according to sources. This visit comes shortly after PM Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy, where the two leaders were seen sharing a hug.
Following the Lok Sabha elections, during which PM Modi secured a third term, President Zelensky congratulated him and extended an invitation to visit the war-torn country. In a phone call with President Zelensky in March, PM Modi discussed ways to enhance the India-Ukraine partnership. He emphasized India’s commitment to a people-centric approach and the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the ongoing conflict.

The Prime Minister affirmed that India would continue to support peaceful solutions within its capacity. Since the onset of the conflict, India has consistently advocated for resolution through dialogue and diplomacy, with PM Modi reiterating India’s readiness to contribute to any peace efforts.
Earlier this month, PM Modi also visited Moscow for a two-day trip. During his discussions with President Putin, he emphasized that solutions to the violence cannot be found on the battlefield. “India has always called for respecting the United Nations Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty. There is no solution on the battlefield. Dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward,” PM Modi stated.
