Prashant Kishor has officially entered electoral politics with the launch of his Jan Suraaj group as a political party. His party, the Jan Suraaj Party, plans to contest all seats in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Leading the party is Manoj Bharti, a retired Indian Foreign Service officer.
Prashant Kishor aims to shift the focus of voting in Bihar away from caste-based politics and electoral promises. Instead, he wants voters to embrace a vision for the future. He emphasized that the people who worked on the Jan Suraaj initiative for the past two years were involved in choosing the party’s leadership.
For over two years, Kishor has traveled across Bihar, educating people about what he believes should be the real election issues. Earlier this year, he declared his readiness to formally enter the political arena. He sees Jan Suraaj as a fresh alternative to the political choices Biharis have had for decades.
Kishor criticized the dominance of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. He stated, “For 25 to 30 years, people have voted for either RJD or BJP. This needs to change. The new option should not come from any dynastic party but from individuals committed to real progress.”
Jan Suraaj emerged after Kishor briefly aligned with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United and rejected an offer to join Congress. He declined a spot on Congress’s Empowered Action Group in 2022, citing the party’s unwillingness to address deep-rooted issues.
Kishor’s journey with Jan Suraaj started with a statewide yatra, and he sees its transformation into a political party as only halfway through his mission. He plans to visit every village in Bihar, urging residents to improve their living standards and focus on the future of their children. He calls on voters to reject pressure from misguided leaders and instead prioritize key issues like education, agriculture, and employment.
The next step for Kishor and Jan Suraaj is to present a comprehensive plan to address Bihar’s most pressing challenges. His vision centers on development and progress for the state’s future.
