Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi stirred debate by claiming that grooming gangs in the UK should not be attributed to Asia but rather to “one rogue nation”—Pakistan. Her remarks gained further traction when SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk agreed, calling her statement “true.”

Chaturvedi’s comments came as the UK’s opposition Conservative Party demanded a new national inquiry into the sexual abuse of predominantly white British girls by men, mostly of Pakistani origin. These incidents occurred over decades in several northern English towns.
The debate intensified pressure on Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Critics have targeted him for his tenure as head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from 2008 to 2013, when some of the cases emerged.
Elon Musk’s Reaction
Elon Musk joined the conversation, criticizing Starmer’s stance. Starmer recently dismissed calls for a new inquiry, suggesting that implementing recommendations from a previous seven-year investigation should take priority.
Musk, however, appeared unimpressed, frequently taking to social media to express his disagreement with Starmer’s approach.
Children’s Bill and Vulnerable Youth Protection
The UK government introduced the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill as part of broader efforts to protect vulnerable children. The bill mandates local authorities to maintain a register of children not enrolled in school.
This move followed the tragic case of Sara Sharif, a 10-year-old British-Pakistani girl. In August 2023, she was found dead at her home outside London, bearing extensive injuries from prolonged abuse. Her father, Urfan Sharif, and stepmother, Beinash Batool, were recently convicted of her murder and sentenced to life in prison.

The Children’s Bill has moved to the next stage in the UK Parliament without any objections. Lawmakers emphasized its importance in safeguarding children from potential harm.
