
Punjab Government Releases ₹15.95 Crore to Protect Destitute Children
The Punjab government has taken a big step toward child welfare. It has released ₹15.95 crore for Mission Jeevanjot and destitute children in the 2024-25 financial year. Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur shared this update.
Rescuing and Rehabilitating Children
Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, Punjab launched Mission Jeevanjot on July 8, 2024. The project aims to prevent children from begging. District-level task forces are working to rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate affected children.
Since July, officials have rescued 268 children from begging across different districts. The government is running an active campaign to protect these children’s futures.
Safe Shelters for Orphaned and Abandoned Children
Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that Punjab follows the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The state has:
- 7 government-run children’s homes
- 39 non-governmental homes providing shelter to orphaned, abandoned, and destitute children
Additionally, the government will soon establish two new homes for destitute children in Gurdaspur and Malerkotla.

Dr. Kaur urged citizens to report cases of child begging or child labor exploitation. People can contact:
