Punjab Installs Solar Panels on 4,474 Government Buildings
Punjab has taken a major step toward clean energy by installing rooftop solar panels on 4,474 government buildings. The initiative reduces reliance on traditional energy sources and supports sustainability. The state now aims to add 20MW of solar power in FY 2025-26.
Punjab New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora shared that these solar panels, with a capacity of 34MW, generate over 4.9 crore units of electricity annually. The system, connected to the power grid, helps reduce distribution losses and ensures efficient energy use. Excess electricity produced during the day is fed back into the grid.
The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, continues to strengthen clean energy infrastructure. Solar energy has become a preferred renewable source due to its environmental benefits. The initiative not only cuts greenhouse gas emissions but also lowers electricity costs and supports job creation in the renewable energy sector.
Harnessing solar power helps Punjab reduce dependence on fossil fuels and move toward a sustainable future. The government remains committed to expanding solar energy adoption across the state.
