Honorarium Hike for Punjab’s Village Chowkidars
The Punjab government has increased the honorarium of village chowkidars after eight years. This Cabinet-approved decision will benefit 9,974 chowkidars, providing them with an additional ₹3 crore annually.
Punjab Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Hardip Singh Mundian stated that the government is committed to fulfilling promises made to every section of society. The monthly honorarium has been raised from ₹1,250 to ₹1,500. Since 2017, the amount had remained unchanged, but now, after eight years, the long-standing demand of chowkidars has been addressed.
Support for Rural Watchmen
The Revenue Minister emphasized that this increase will help chowkidars perform their duties more effectively. These village guards not only ensure security but also play a crucial role in rural development. They act as a link between the village panchayat and numberdars, assisting in various administrative tasks.
With the Cabinet’s approval, a notification will be issued soon to implement this decision.
