Punjab Police Cracks Down on Illegal Immigration
Chandigarh, February 15 – Punjab Police arrested a travel agent, Anil Batra, in a major crackdown on fraudulent immigration practices. Batra is one of four accused in an illegal immigration scam that led to multiple deportations from the US.
This arrest follows the registration of 10 FIRs against travel agents who allegedly misled individuals with false promises of illegal entry into the US. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, has been investigating these cases. Officials have urged deported individuals to come forward and help bring offenders to justice.
Arrest Details
Acting on SIT’s directives, a police team led by Inspector Abhey Singh Chauhan arrested Batra from his in-laws’ house in Patiala. The accused, a resident of Kurukshetra, Haryana, faces charges under IPC sections 406, 420, 370, and 120-B, along with Section 24 of the Emigration Act.
Investigations revealed that Batra arranged visas for Suriname and facilitated illegal travel through South America and Central America before victims entered the US with the help of traffickers. Authorities have frozen his bank account, which holds Rs 6.35 lakh.
Police Urge Public to Stay Vigilant
DGP Gaurav Yadav reaffirmed Punjab Police’s commitment to dismantling human trafficking networks. He urged the public to report any fraudulent immigration activities and warned against unverified travel agents. He also advised citizens to only seek services from licensed immigration consultants to avoid scams.
