Sonia Mann Joins AAP, Calls It a ‘New Journey’
Punjabi actress Sonia Mann, daughter of Kirti Kisan Union leader Baldev Singh, officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday in the presence of Arvind Kejriwal.
Welcoming her, AAP’s Punjab unit posted on X:
“Kirti Kisan Union leader S Baldev Singh Ji’s daughter and Punjabi actress Sonia Mann joined Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of National Convener Arvind Kejriwal. She is very welcome in the AAP family.”
Mann has worked in multiple film industries, including Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, and Marathi. Her debut film was the Malayalam movie ‘Hide n’ Seek’, followed by her Hindi debut ‘Kahin Hai Mera Pyar’ (2014). She also appeared in ‘Happy Hardy and Heer’ (2020).
Apart from films, she has collaborated with well-known singers, including the late Sidhu Moosewala in 2018.
Her father, Baldev Singh, was a farm leader and activist who was shot dead by Khalistani militants in the 1980s.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, after facing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections on February 8, has now shifted his focus toward Punjab’s 2027 Assembly elections.
Punjab’s Education System Under Fire
Meanwhile, AAP’s governance in Punjab is facing criticism over the state’s deteriorating education sector.
Punjab Democratic Teacher Front (DTF) chief Digvijay Pal Sharma slammed former Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia after he visited Punjab’s schools, calling it “a failed inspection.”
Sharma alleged that AAP failed to deliver on its education promises, leaving many crucial positions vacant:
- 50% of Principal posts remain unfilled
- 45% of Headmaster positions are vacant
- 40% of Block Education Officer posts lie empty
Speaking to ANI, Sharma said,
“AAP promised education and health reforms in its 2022 manifesto. However, the education system in Punjab has deteriorated further under their rule. They must be held accountable.”
As Punjab gears up for the 2027 elections, AAP faces the challenge of balancing political expansion with governance improvements in the state.
