Rahul Gandhi Calls for Nationwide Caste Census
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the caste survey conducted by the Bihar government, calling it a ploy to mislead the public. Speaking at the ‘Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan’ in Patna, he emphasized the need for a nationwide caste census to address systemic inequalities.
Criticism of Bihar’s Caste Survey
Gandhi alleged that the Bihar government’s caste survey was a superficial exercise. He said it failed to address real issues and claimed it was designed to deceive people. He contrasted this with his party’s push for a thorough and transparent caste census across the country.
Demand for Increased Representation
Rahul Gandhi highlighted that Dalits, minorities, and marginalized communities make up 90% of India’s population but lack significant representation in key sectors. “A caste census is vital to understand their participation in the country’s wealth and bureaucracy,” he said.
He also criticized the current 50% cap on reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs. “This limit is insufficient. We will work to increase it to benefit the majority,” he declared.
Allegations Against BJP and RSS
Gandhi accused the BJP and the RSS of undermining the Constitution and neglecting marginalized groups. He took aim at RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement on “true independence” after the Ram temple consecration, calling it unconstitutional.
Constitution as a Tool for Justice
Gandhi emphasized the significance of the Constitution, describing it as more than a book. “It reflects the struggles and challenges of Dalits and marginalized communities,” he said.
A Fight for the Constitution
Rahul Gandhi framed the political battle as one between those defending the Constitution and those spreading hatred. He reaffirmed his party’s commitment to ensuring justice and equality for all.
This renewed push for a caste census highlights Congress’s focus on social justice and equitable development.
