Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly criticized the Union Budget 2025, calling it a “band-aid for bullet wounds.” He accused the government of suffering from a “bankruptcy of ideas.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi wrote, “Amid global uncertainty, solving our economic crisis demanded a paradigm shift. But this government is bankrupt of ideas.”
His party also targeted the government over its budget announcements, particularly the schemes allocated to Bihar. Congress highlighted that Andhra Pradesh, another key NDA ally, was “cruelly ignored.”
With Bihar elections approaching later this year, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced several initiatives for the state. These include the establishment of a Makhana board, financial support for the western Kosi canal, and plans to enhance the capacity of IIT Patna.
Sitharaman’s eighth budget also introduced schemes for the MSME sector, women, farmers, and the education sector. A major highlight was the income tax rebate for the middle class, making income up to ₹12 lakh per annum tax-free.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the budget, calling it a “people’s budget.” He stated, “This budget will boost investment and pave the way for ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India). It will greatly benefit the middle class and those entering the workforce.”
Despite the government’s claims, the Opposition remains critical, accusing the Centre of failing to address deeper economic challenges.
