FIR Filed Against Rahul Gandhi Over Remarks
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi faces legal trouble following his remarks claiming, “the BJP and RSS have captured every institution, and we are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself.” An FIR was lodged against Rahul Gandhi in Guwahati’s Pan Bazar Police Station under Sections 152 and 197(1)d of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for “acts endangering sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.”
Allegations of Incitement
The complainant, Monjit Chetia, argues that Rahul Gandhi’s statement overstepped the boundaries of free speech, posing threats to public order and national security. He claims Gandhi’s remarks delegitimize the State’s authority and incite rebellion, fostering separatist sentiments.
According to Chetia, Gandhi’s frustration over electoral setbacks led to these comments, accusing him of exploiting his platform to spread falsehoods and provoke unrest. “As Leader of the Opposition, his role is to uphold confidence in democratic institutions. Instead, he incites disaffection, endangering India’s unity and sovereignty,” the complaint asserts.
Context and Fallout
The remarks were made during the inauguration of the Congress Party’s new headquarters in Delhi on January 15. The complaint calls for immediate legal action, highlighting that Gandhi’s comments threaten the nation’s integrity and stability.
This development adds to the political turbulence surrounding Rahul Gandhi, as legal proceedings and public scrutiny intensify.
