Rahul Gandhi Bats for Stronger Public Education Over Privatisation
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has voiced concerns over India’s education system. He believes privatisation won’t guarantee quality education. Instead, he advocates strengthening public institutions.
During a conversation with IIT Madras students, Gandhi said, “Education is the government’s primary responsibility.” He stressed that financial incentives in education often dilute its quality. He also called for higher public spending on schools and universities.
Education Needs Reforms
Gandhi expressed dissatisfaction with the current system. “Our education system limits imagination. It pushes students into only a few professions,” he said. He noted that most students want to become doctors, engineers, or join the army.
“We need a system that values all professions,” he added. According to him, the focus should shift from exams to practical learning. He encouraged promoting innovation by respecting various skills.
Education vs. Privatisation
Gandhi strongly opposed the privatisation of education. He argued that public institutions, like IITs, offer better quality. He said governments must invest more in education rather than rely on private players.
He added that reforms should help children explore different career options. “It shouldn’t be about just cracking exams. Let kids experiment and innovate,” Gandhi said.
Balancing Global Relations
On international issues, Gandhi pointed out that India must carefully balance its ties with China and the US. He stressed that India could gain significantly by navigating global tensions wisely.
Gandhi believes a more inclusive, reformed education system will help India unlock its full potential. He urged leaders to push for innovation and give children the freedom to dream beyond conventional career paths.
