Rahul Gandhi to Lead Congress Campaign in Jammu and Kashmir
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is set to launch his party’s campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election on Wednesday, September 4. He will address two major public rallies in the Ramban and Anantnag districts, supporting Congress candidates in the first phase of the election scheduled for September 18.
Focus on Key Constituencies
Rahul Gandhi will start his campaign in Banihal, where he will rally for former Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Vikar Rasool Wani, who is contesting the Banihal assembly seat. Afterward, Gandhi will travel to the Dooru area of Anantnag district to campaign for Congress General Secretary and former minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir, the party’s candidate for the Dooru assembly segment.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hamid Karra, Gandhi’s visit is expected to energize the party’s campaign efforts and improve its chances in the election.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Also Joins the Campaign
In addition to Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has confirmed her participation in the party’s campaign in Jammu and Kashmir. The elections will be conducted in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4 , 2024.

Congress-NC Alliance Aims for Strong Showing
The Indian National Congress and the National Conference (NC) have formed a pre-poll alliance for this election, the first since the abrogation of Article 370. Under the seat-sharing agreement, the NC will contest 51 seats, while the Congress will compete for 32. The alliance has also allocated one seat each to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Panthers Party.
The Congress hopes that Rahul Gandhi’s campaign will help reclaim the party’s influence, especially in Jammu, where the BJP has gained ground in recent years.
