Rajnath Singh: J&K Elections a Testament to India’s Democratic Strength
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing a rally in Gurez, Bandipore, declared that the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are far from ordinary. He described them as a powerful demonstration of India’s democracy and its strength. Singh emphasized that every citizen must participate to reinforce this democratic message.
Development Initiatives and India’s Commitment
Singh highlighted the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, which significantly contributed to the region’s growth. He proudly compared India’s commitment to Jammu and Kashmir’s development with Pakistan’s financial situation. “Pakistan asked the IMF for funds, but India has invested more in J&K than what Pakistan requested. If relations were better, India would have even supported Pakistan financially,” Singh stated, quoting former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s belief in harmony between nations.
Pakistan’s Role in Terrorism
Taking a direct shot at Pakistan, Rajnath Singh underlined its involvement in terrorism in Kashmir. He expressed frustration over Pakistan’s refusal to dismantle terrorist camps on its soil, despite multiple warnings.
“Pakistan shouldn’t forget this is a new India. We are prepared to fight terrorism, not just within our borders, but beyond them if necessary,” Singh affirmed.
Message of Hope and Transformation
The Defence Minister also assured the local populace that democracy in J&K is stronger than ever, despite Pakistan’s efforts to disrupt it. “Seeing your courage, I believe no one can weaken democracy here,” he said to the enthusiastic crowd.
Singh sent a clear warning to those plotting against India: “If there’s any terrorist attack, we will strike wherever they are.”
Criticism of Opposition and Article 370
Turning his attention to the opposition, Singh criticized the National Conference (NC) and Congress for their promises to restore Article 370, which granted special status to J&K. He confidently asserted that only the Central Government has the authority over the issue.
Since the removal of Article 370, Singh pointed out, J&K has witnessed a positive shift. “Today, Kashmir is no longer known for terrorism but for tourism. The national flag proudly waves at Lal Chowk, and record numbers of tourists are visiting the valley,” he said.
A New Era for Kashmir’s Youth
The Defence Minister expressed optimism for the future, emphasizing that Kashmir’s youth are now equipped with tools for education and progress rather than stones. He announced that new institutions like IIMs and IITs would soon be established in the region.
“Two political families—NC, Congress, and PDP—only focused on securing their own interests. They did nothing for the people,” Singh remarked, leaving the crowd energized with hope for a brighter, more prosperous future for Jammu and Kashmir.
