Rajnath Singh Criticizes Rahul Gandhi for False Claims
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday strongly criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. He accused him of making false claims about the Army chief and misleading remarks on the India-China border issue.
Rahul Gandhi, during the Motion of Thanks to President Droupadi Murmu’s address, alleged that India’s dependence on Chinese goods is a security threat. He claimed that the Chief of Army Staff admitted that Chinese troops are inside Indian territory. Gandhi blamed the failure of ‘Make in India’ for this situation. He warned that India might surrender its economic growth to China.
Army Chief’s Words Twisted
Rajnath Singh dismissed these claims. He clarified that the Army chief only referred to disruptions in traditional patrolling by both Indian and Chinese forces. He stated that these patrolling practices have now returned to normal. Singh also confirmed that the government had shared these details in Parliament.
He further asserted that the statements attributed to the Army chief were never made. Singh condemned Rahul Gandhi for misleading the nation on such a sensitive matter. He called it a matter of “deep regret” that Gandhi engaged in irresponsible politics on national security.
BJP Demands Action
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks triggered strong reactions from the treasury bench and NDA leaders. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding Privilege Proceedings against Gandhi. He accused Gandhi of distorting facts and attempting to damage India’s reputation.
Singh reminded that if any Chinese presence exists on Indian soil, it is in Aksai Chin (38,000 sq km) due to the 1962 war and the 5,180 sq km ceded by Pakistan to China in 1963. He urged Rahul Gandhi to reflect on history before making allegations.
