Donald Trump Narrowly Escapes Assassination Attempt in Florida
Former US President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Florida on Sunday. The FBI reported that Secret Service agents stopped the suspect near Trump’s golf course. A man named Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was arrested after authorities opened fire.
The Attempted Assassination
Routh carried an AK-47-style rifle equipped with a scope and a GoPro camera. He hid near the boundary of Trump’s golf course. When agents fired, Routh fled from the shrubs and drove off in a black car. However, witnesses helped police track him down, leading to his arrest.
“We have a potential suspect in custody,” confirmed Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw during a press conference.
Who Is Ryan Wesley Routh?
Routh, originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, has a history of violent behavior. He worked in construction but lacked formal military training. According to reports, Routh once expressed strong desires to fight in Ukraine after Russia’s 2022 invasion. He posted on social media, stating he was willing to “fight and die” in Ukraine.
His profile on messaging platforms like Signal and WhatsApp also highlighted his extreme views. He advocated for civilians to change the course of global conflicts and urged them to support human rights and freedom.
In 2023, Routh claimed he traveled to Ukraine to assist the war effort. He even attempted to recruit Afghan soldiers. His violent history stretches back to 2002 when he barricaded himself in a building with a fully automatic weapon.
Trump’s Response
Trump’s campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, assured the public that Trump was safe. “Fear not! I am safe and well, and no one was hurt,” Trump shared in a message. The incident follows another assassination attempt that occurred weeks earlier in Pennsylvania.
Trump’s safety remains a priority as authorities continue to investigate.
Elon Musk’s Reaction
Elon Musk, CEO of X (formerly known as Twitter), was among the first to respond to the incident. In a tweet, he expressed his relief over Trump’s safety. “Glad to hear Trump is safe. Violence has no place in our society, no matter who the target is,” Musk stated. His response quickly garnered attention, reflecting widespread concern over rising threats against public figures.
This attempt follows another assassination effort weeks earlier, where Trump was targeted during a rally in Pennsylvania. Authorities remain vigilant as investigations continue.
