Kailash Gahlot Quits AAP, Hints at Joining BJP
In a major jolt to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), senior minister Kailash Gahlot has resigned. Sources suggest he may join the BJP. His resignation comes as a setback ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls.
Key Portfolios and Controversies
Gahlot handled crucial portfolios like Home, Transport, IT, and Women and Child Development. In his resignation letter to Arvind Kejriwal, he cited “grave challenges” within AAP.
He criticized the party for prioritizing political ambitions over public service. Highlighting unfulfilled promises, he mentioned the failure to clean the Yamuna River. “The river is more polluted now than ever before,” he wrote.
Swipes at Kejriwal
Gahlot also referred to the “Sheeshmahal” controversy, targeting Kejriwal’s costly renovation of his residence. He questioned whether AAP still stood for the common man.
AAP’s Internal Struggles
Gahlot accused AAP of focusing on its political agenda at the expense of basic services. He criticized the government’s constant tussle with the Centre, calling it a barrier to Delhi’s progress.
BJP’s Response
The BJP welcomed Gahlot’s resignation. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said, “AAP has become Arvind Aadmi Party.” Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva called Gahlot’s decision bold, hinting at a possible future in the BJP.
A Big Blow Before Elections
Gahlot’s exit, especially as he handled significant portfolios, weakens AAP ahead of the Delhi polls. With Atishi now leading the government, AAP faces a tough road ahead.
